COVID-19: NCDC creating fears to market coronavirus – Nigerians lament

Nigerians are beginning to ask questions on the figures of COVID-19 cases, those who have recovered and the number of deaths.

Speaking with DAILY POST in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, some Nigerians have demanded to know the medication over 745 Nigerians took before they recovered from the pandemic, so that, such treatment or medication can be recommended for the rest of the country.

Ladan Imam, an Islamic scholar in Maiduguri said that fear was being created in the minds of Nigerians and that NCDC was taking things for granted.

“People are suffering more from other deadly diseases than coronavirus pandemic, but NCDC is only marketing coronavirus on TV, Radio and newspapers to scare the people the more and make more money. This should not be accepted by Nigerians because soon, NCDC will sell the future of Nigerians to the western world who are working hard to reduce world population,” he said.

Audu Umar, a trader at the Maiduguri Monday market, told DAILY POST that, they no longer understand what is going on in the country as a result of the pandemic.

According to him, if the lockdown did not reduce the number of cases being recorded daily, government’s effort has been defeated.

“NCDC needs to explain to Nigerians how they are coming about the figures. Their explanations had not been convincing so far. We know that people are dying.

” Here in Borno, the Shehu of Bama is gone, two members of the state Assembly, our former Governor, Goni, powerful Islamic scholars and many others are gone. They told us it was coronavirus that killed them. Is this coronavirus more deadly than cancer and other fearful diseases that people across the country are battling with? For me, seriously, we need an answer to this because I see it as a way to cripple our economy, kill the people who should be speaking for the masses, and at the end, enslave us,” Umar said.

Alhaji Tijjani Shuib said, “We were told the symptoms of coronavirus are cough, catarrh, difficulty in breathing, and the mortality rate is very minimal, which we have seen in the results NCDC have been releasing.

“These symptoms people have been suffering have been managed well here in Nigerian hospitals. We have seen people being treated. Why are we marketing coronavirus in Nigeria?” He demanded.

According to him, NCDC is only creating fears, hardship and tension in Nigeria. “They promised to test 40,000 in 1 month, and this is almost 2months, and they haven’t tested 20,000. Now they said 4151 active cases and 745 have been discharged, which confirms mortality is less than 7%. Why then do they want to kill the entire country with fear?

“Do they know how people struggle to survive in this country? Do they know that they are forcing more hardship on people by marketing coronavirus? If this continues, Nigeria will be forced to open its borders for the importation of rice, can foods and all sorts of junks because we will be running out of food soon, even at a time we were almost food sufficient,” Alhaji Tijjani said.
