All passengers dead as plane conveying COVID-19 materials crashes

A plane carrying medical supplies for use in the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crashed in Somalia’s southern Bay region on Monday.

All seven people on board were killed as a result of the crash.

According to Somalia News Agency, the plane belonged to African Express Airways and was transporting supplies for use in the fight against COVID-19.

“An African Express Airways plane from Mogadishu flew to Baidoa and then continued its flight to Bardale town where it crashed,” the news agency said on its website.

“The plane crashed near Bardale airport. It was carrying medicine to prevent COVID-19. It is not clear why it crashed.”

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases in Africa as of today is over 44,000, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo.
