The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has warned Nigerians against drinking bleach as treatment for Coronavirus infection.
This advice comes days after William Bryan, acting head of the US Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate, presented the results of US government research that indicated that Coronavirus appears weak when exposed to sunlight and heat.
The study also claimed that bleach could kill the virus in saliva or respiratory fluids within five minutes and isopropyl alcohol could kill it even more quickly.
Reacting, NCDC in a post shared via its Twitter handle, warned against taking bleach as a preventive measure to kill the virus, adding that bleach exposes a person to health complications and even death.
The tweet reads’ ” It is important to note that bleach & other disinfectants should be used to clean surfaces.
”They should NOT be consumed by people to treat #COVID19.
”Drinking bleach & disinfectants can lead to health complications & even death.
”Please share widely. TakeResponsibility.”
DAILY POST recalls that a medical expert, Dr Chinonso Egemba, had said that users of skin-lightening creams, which contain steroids, are more likely to have severe illness or die from Coronavirus disease.
