Coronavirus: FMC Owerri gives update on Imo index case

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, in Imo on Sunday confirmed that the index case of COVID-19 in the state is receiving treatment at its isolation center.

The hospital spokesperson, Mrs Jacinta Achonu made this known on Sunday while briefing newsmen in Owerri.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that a COVID-19 patient of about 45 years was brought to the isolation center of FMC, Owerri about 2:30 pm, and a team of medical experts is managing the situation,” she said.

The medical professional, however, declined to reveal the identity of the patient stressing that only the Nigerian Center for Disease Control had the power to do so.

“I don’t know the identity of the patient but we have been waiting for his arrival and he finally arrived on Saturday,” Achonu said.

The NCDC on Saturday announced that Imo State has recorded an index case of the COVID-19 disease bringing the national toll of the infection to 1,182.
