Coronavirus: Wike issues new directives to bus, taxi, Keke NAPEP, private drivers

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, issued new directives commercial bus, taxi, Keke NAPEP, and private drivers as Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread across the country.

The governor, in a series of tweets on his official Twitter page, also instructed all commercial drivers on the number of passengers they are supposed to carry in their vehicles.

According to him, drivers and their passengers are expected to wear a face mask and observe the use of sanitizers.

Wike, however, warned that anyone who failed to abide by the new directives would be arrested and prosecuted.

He tweeted: “The operations of all private motor parks, taxi ranks and loading bays throughout the State is hereby prohibited;

“No commercial taxi driver should carry more than three passengers in his vehicles per trip.

“No commercial bus driver should carry more than 40 percent of the full capacity of his vehicle.

“All tricycles (Keke NAPEP) must limit their passengers to two persons only.

“No private vehicle should carry more than three persons in the car.

“All drivers, persons or passengers in commercial and private vehicles, including tricycles, must wear face masks and observe the use of sanitizers.

“A task force has been set-up to; arrest and prosecute any person without wearing face masks in public places or inside vehicles.

“To impound and auction any vehicle with persons or passengers without wearing facemasks.

“To arrest and prosecute any driver loading or off-loading passengers at any private motor-park, taxi rank, or loading bay.

“To impound and auction any vehicle loading or off-loading passengers at any private park, taxi rank, or loading bay.

“Government will give N100,000 to any whistleblower who gives out relevant information leading to the arrest and prosecution of any person that violates these directives.”

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria is 2,558, according to NCDC.
