An Osun State Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Osogbo has sentenced 14 people to two months imprisonment for violating the stay-at-home order of the state government on Wednesday.
Earlier, two convicts, Omodele Titilayo and Sulaiman Basharu were brought before the court on offences bothering on conspiracy, disobedience, breach of the public peace, and assault of police inspector.
The prosecutor, Mr. Kayode Adeoye told the magistrate that, the duo committed the offence on April 7, 2020 at 6 pm, opposite Dugbe Police Station, Osogbo.
He said the convicts did “disobey the state government lockdown/stay at home order and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 203 of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
He further alleged that the convicts did conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by deliberately failed to comply with the state government lockdown/stay at home order and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249(D) of the Criminal Code CAR 34 Vol II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
The duo pleaded guilty all the charges preferred against them by the prosecution counsel.
The defence counsel, Mr. Tunbosun Oladipupo prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
Delivering the judgment, Mr. Ayilara sentenced the two convicts to two-month imprisonment giving them the option of N5,000 fine.
Meanwhile, when the magistrate, Mr. Olusegun Ayilara met a large crowd of people in the courtroom, he called relatives of the two convicts to identify themselves while he ordered that the remaining 12 people be arrested and arraigned for violating stay-at-home order.
The twelve convicts, Adeoye Johnson, Ibrahim Babatunde, Akinloye Lukman, Owolabi Azeez, Hammed Basharu, Akinwande Saheed, Seun Agboola, Aribidesi Muideen, Sulaimon Ismail, Olaleye Moses, Alade Mayowa and Muniru Bashiru were arraigned on two-count charge bothering on disobedience and breach of public peace.
