Four out of the 11 travellers from Sokoto State intercepted over the weekend at the Oyo-Osun boundary by the men of Oyo State border patrol have tested positive for coronavirus.
DAILY POST recalls that the Oyo State Police Command, on Saturday, arrested no fewer than eleven travellers from Sokoto in Ibadan, the State capital.
The eleven travellers defied the inter-state lockdown order of the Oyo State Government, in their bid to sneak into Akure, Ondo State.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sina Olukolu, who briefed Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on his arrival at the Gbagi Police Station, where the culprits were detained overnight, said that the travellers were apprehended at the Asejire Dam axis of the Ibadan-Osun boundary.
Olukolu added that they claimed that they were travelling from Sokoto enroute to Akure, Ondo State.
DAILY POST, however, gathered that four out of the eleven passengers have tested positive for coronavirus.
The state’s Incident Manager, Dr Taiwo Ladipo, made the disclosure while speaking to journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday.
He said the four confirmed cases were presently isolated at the Infectious Diseases Centre, Olodo.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the State as at Tuesday morning now stands at 39, with 28 active cases.
The State has also recorded two COVID-19 related deaths, while eleven persons have recovered from the virus.
