Fintiri restricts movement of people with weak health conditions, others

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State signed an executive order on Tuesday, restricting the movement of people with weak health conditions and all persons aged 65 years and above.

The order, a document highlighting the guidelines of how the people are expected to conduct themselves in the atmosphere of the eased lockdown that currently prevails in the state, was released to newsmen by Humwashi Wonosikou, the Press Secretary to Governor Fintiri.

“Persons with underlying medical challenges and low immunity are advised to remain at home. So also with persons above 65 years are also advised to stay at home,” the order said.

It advised that apart from such people, residents should cultivate the culture of going out only on absolute necessity and should do so adhering to all rules indicated to prevent spread of COVID-19.

Adamawa State which by Monday update has 12 COVId-19 cases, relaxed the lockdown earlier imposed by the governor, but advised strict observance of social distancing, hand-washing, facemask wearing and other precautions.

The order just signed by the governor “backs the resumption of work by Civil Servants on grade level 12 and above, effective from Monday 4th May 2020, while those on grade levels 1-10 are to be divided into two groups for the purpose of reporting to duty between the hours of 8:00am to 2:00 pm on weekdays.”

The order gives legal backing to the indefinite closure of all cattle markets across the state, as well as a ban on operation of recreational areas, facilities and event centres such as clubs, bars, gardens, and beer parlours.

It also bans parties, weddings, and religious gatherings in Mosques, Churches, halls and other buildings, but allows weddings and burials attended by not more than 15 people.

“Only vehicles conveying goods such as agro-products, Petroleum products, medical supplies, relief and construction materials as well as courier and security services would be allowed entry into the State provided they satisfy conditions put in place by the COVID-19 Containment Committee, but be reminded that the State government will enforce strictly the ban on interstate travels,” the order clarifies.

It added that schools across the state would remain closed until further notice.
