KWARA: Four staff of dep gov’s office tests positive for COVID-19

No fewer than four top officials in the office of the Kwara State deputy governor, Kayode Alabi, have reportedly tested positive for the dreaded COVID-19 disease which has fast spread across the country.

This was revealed in a statement on Sunday in Illorin by the Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Modupe Joel, who on behalf of her principal, warned people of the state to always adhere strictly with the safety protocols on the dreaded disease.

The statement reads thus in part; “We call on Kwarans to take responsibility in the fight against COVID-19.”

“The only antidote against COVID-19 is to obey all government and health officials’ precautionary measures.

Alabi also advised all ministries, departments, and agencies to emulate his action by testing staff of their respective organisations.

He described the pandemic, “as real and that which presents danger and requires caution.”

The deputy governor assured the people that, “the government is determined to flatten the curve of coronavirus and curb community transmission,” the statement added.

This came after Kwara State was officially designated as a test centre for the COVID-19 pandemic by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), according to the chairman of the state’s medical advisory on COVID-19, Dr Femi Oladiji.

Oladiji said in a statement on Saturday, that the NCDC has approved the automated GeneXpert laboratory, which is stationed at the COVID-19/Infectious Diseases Centre Alagbado, Ilorin, which is now fully functional.
