Police convicts 204 persons for violating lockdown order in Niger State

The Police in Niger State has prosecuted a total of 204 persons in Minna Mobile Court for violating the COVID-19 order 2020 of the State Government.

The offenses, according to the state Police Commissioner, CP Adamu Usman in Minna, ranged from driving vehicles during the period of lockdown, organising social events/gathering, and not wearing face masks.

Others are conveying passengers during the lockdown and carrying more than the prescribed numbers of passengers required during the window period.

The Command explained that initially, 216 persons were arrested and charged to court, out of which 204 persons were convicted and punished, while 12 were discharged.

He said, ” their punishments range from six months imprisonment or fine of N3000 for motorcyclists and tricyclists and N5000 for vehicle drivers.”

Usman called on the members of the public, particularly residents of Minna to continue to comply with the restriction of movement law in the interest of public safety.

” People should see the measure as a means to curb the spread of COVID-19 and to protect life and property in our dear Ssate,” the state police boss further noted.
