Saraki, Ekweremadu reveal Yar’Adua’s personality 10 years after his death

Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, has paid tribute to late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, 10 years after his death.

Saraki said Yar’Adua will be remembered for his humanity, dedication to duty and desire for a greater Nigeria.

In a tweet, Saraki wrote: “10 years after President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s passing, we are constantly reminded about his humanity, his dedication to duty and his desire for a Nigeria we can all be proud of.

“May Allah (SWT) forgive his sins and continue to retain for him a place in Aljannah Firdaus.”

On his part, former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweramadu said Yar’Adua wrote his name in gold by creating the Ministry of Niger Delta in 2008.

Ekweremadu also said the late President would be remembered for his amnesty deal and restoration of peace in the Niger Delta region.

In a series of tweets, Ekweremadu said Nigeria lost a leader in Yar’Adua.

He wrote: “We lost a leader in the late President Yar’Adua 10 yrs ago. When in July 2007 I led Southeast Senators to discuss challenges facing the region with him, he was surprised the Southeast had no direct access to the world and graciously designated the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu an int’l airport.

“He wrote his name in gold by creating the Ministry of Niger Delta in 2008 and pulled the amnesty deal in 2009 to restore peace and security in the region. I actually nominated him for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize. He didn’t win, but the world notes that he was a man of peace and justice.

“May God continue to have mercy on his soul and continue to grant his fine, gentle soul a peaceful repose. Amen.”
