Cult war: Council boss, two lawmakers arrested in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the council chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, Eni Uduma and the lawmaker representing Afikpo South East Constituency, Chidi Agemu, over alleged involvement in cult clashes.

It was gathered that the cult clashes lead to the killing of one boy whose name was yet to be identified at the time of filing this report.

Confirming the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, Awosola Awotinde, said the police arrested them and one other honourable whose name was yet to be identified at the time of filling this report for alleged involvement in cult clashes.

The cult clashes took place at Asaga Owutu Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area and it lead to the death of one person popularly known as Dunk.

According to the commissioner, “Yes, there was a clash in Afikpo South, we have arrested the chairman of the local government, one House of Assembly member representing the area and one other honourable.

“We have dispatched our men there to ensure peace returns, and we are still investigating the matter,” he stated.

However, a source from the area had told DAILY POST that the killing was as a result of differences between two cult groups at Asaga Owutu Edda, in Afikpo South Local Government Area.

However, all efforts to reach the embattled lawmaker, Chidi Ejem at the time of filing this report proved abortive as he refused to pick calls or respond to text messages sent to him.
